MINISTRY OF OMNI-DIMENSIONAL ENTITY EXTRACTION

OFFICIAL HISTORY & RECRUITMENT DOCUMENT — CLEARANCE LEVEL: OPEN

PREPARED BY: DIVISION OF INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS, 1991

You have been selected. Not at random. Never at random. You are reading this document because someone — somewhere — decided you were exceptional. The Ministry of Omni-Dimensional Entity Extraction does not cast a wide net. We use a very small, very precise hook. And you took the bait.

OUR ORIGINS

In the winter of 1947, following a series of unexplained mass-disappearance events in three separate countries, a coalition of governments quietly acknowledged what their scientists had been whispering for years: the world we inhabit is not the only one pressed up against ours. There are others. Layers. Dimensions bleeding through the seams of our own like ink through wet paper. And what lives in those layers had — for centuries — been leaking through. The Ministry was established in 1948 under a joint mandate signed by seven governments (the list remains classified). Its original directive was simple: identify, contain, and catalogue. Over the following four decades, the directive expanded. The entities weren't just crossing over. They were hiding. Embedding themselves into the very fabric of industrial civilization — into patterns, into symbols, into the relentless geometry of modern commerce. They found the barcodes.

THE DISCOVERY

In 1974, the Universal Product Code was introduced to the American market. Within eighteen months, Ministry analysts detected a statistically impossible anomaly: barcode patterns that had never been printed, appearing in sealed packaging. Patterns that moved when no one was watching. By 1979, we understood. The entities had recognized in the barcode a kind of key — a dimensional tether. A way to compress themselves into something flat, something undetected, something that could travel anywhere human commerce reached. Which, by 1980, was everywhere.

WHAT WE DO

The Ministry develops, trains, and deploys Agents across the globe. Equipped with a proprietary extraction device — the MODEX Unit — our Agents scan encoded surfaces and retrieve entities before they can re-emerge on their own terms. History has shown us what uncontrolled emergence looks like. The Morelton Incident of 1983 is still officially classified as a gas leak. It was not a gas leak. Agents are rewarded with Tao currency for successful extractions, containment, and controlled training engagements. The best Agents climb our ranks. The best of those... learn more.

You will be issued an Agent ID. You will be briefed on your sector. You will do your part to keep the boundary clean. You will not discuss your work with friends, family, or mental health professionals. In return, the Ministry offers a competitive compensation package, access to the finest entity research in the world, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing the world has no idea how much it owes you. Welcome to the Ministry. HAVE A PRODUCTIVE AND COMPLIANT CAREER. — Office of the Director-General, M.O.D.E.X. Established 1948. Protecting the seams since before you were born.

FIELD OPERATIONS MANUAL — VOL. 4, REVISION 11

CHAPTER 1: THE MODEX UNIT

Your MODEX unit is the most sophisticated piece of hardware you will ever hold. It is also government property. Damage to the unit is deducted from your Tao earnings at a rate we find motivating. The MODEX functions in three primary modes: [SCAN] — Point at any encoded surface. Barcodes, QR matrices, optical patterns. The unit will identify embedded entity signatures and initiate extraction. [CONTAIN] — Upon successful extraction, the entity is held in the unit's dimensional buffer. Buffer capacity: 6 entities. Do not exceed this. We mean it. [TRAIN] — Access your containment roster. Assign training regimens. Entities that reach maturity may be deployed in controlled engagement scenarios for Tao rewards.

CHAPTER 2: ENTITY CLASSIFICATION

Entities are classified on the OMEGA scale (Ω1 — Ω9). Ω1 — Ω3 : Dormant. Low signature. Easy extraction. Low Tao yield. Ω4 — Ω6 : Active. Resistance during extraction possible. Handle accordingly. Ω7 — Ω8 : Aggressive. Requires certified Agent (Level 8+). Do not approach without authorization. Ω9 : [REDACTED] Do not approach. Do not scan. Walk away. Report sighting via SECURE channel only. Entities that are NOT extracted will re-emerge. This is bad. The Morelton Incident began with an Agent who assumed an Ω6 would "probably just stay in the can." It did not.

CHAPTER 3: ENGAGEMENT PROTOCOLS

Controlled training environments allow Agents to grow their entities toward operational maturity. An entity reaches Level 12 when it can sustain a 40-second engagement without destabilization. Rewards are issued after each certified engagement: • Win: +80 Tao base rate • Loss: +20 Tao (participation, not incompetence, is rewarded) • Entity evolution: bonus multiplier applied automatically

CHAPTER 4: WHAT NOT TO DO

Do not: — Attempt to communicate with entities outside authorized protocols — Allow entities to scan YOU (this has happened; see Incident Log 7-F) — Discuss Ministry operations with civilians — Respond to unsolicited contact claiming to be from "The Fold" or any organization not listed in your approved contact registry — Attempt to decrypt restricted communications without clearance — Ask what happened in Morelton These guidelines exist for your protection. The Ministry takes Agent wellbeing seriously. Especially when it is convenient. HAVE A SAFE AND PRODUCTIVE FIELD OPERATION.

NOTE: Detailed biological/dimensional data available to Clearance Level 5+

── DESIGNATION: VORRN (Class: Ω3) ───────────────────────── First documented: 1951, Western Europe Appearance: Translucent mass, roughly spherical. Faint luminescence. No apparent sensory organs (visible). Behavior: Passive. Mild resistance to extraction. Barcode affinity: Standard UPC-A Notes: Common. Good for new Agents. Low yield. Makes a faint sound during extraction that some Agents describe as "singing." This is normal. Do not attempt to listen more carefully. ── DESIGNATION: KERATH (Class: Ω5) ──────────────────────── First documented: 1968, South East Asia Appearance: Variable. Typically presents as angular shadow geometry. Does not respond to visible light. Behavior: Reactive. Will attempt evasive dimensional slip during extraction. Quick scan recommended. Barcode affinity: QR Matrix, Code 128 Notes: Valuable. Responds well to training. Agents should note that Kerath have been observed to recognize their primary handler. The Ministry has no official position on whether this constitutes "bonding." ── DESIGNATION: SULETH (Class: Ω7) ──────────────────────── First documented: 1983, [LOCATION REDACTED] Appearance: [DATA RESTRICTED — CLEARANCE 7 REQUIRED] Behavior: [DATA RESTRICTED — CLEARANCE 7 REQUIRED] Barcode affinity: [RESTRICTED] Notes: If encountered in the field, do not engage. Do not scan. Do not make sustained eye contact. Retreat and file Form 77-D (Hostile Entity Contact). The Ministry will handle it. The Ministry has always handled it. ── DESIGNATION: [REDACTED] (Class: Ω9) ──────────────────── [ALL DATA RESTRICTED] [CLEARANCE 9 REQUIRED] [This entry should not be visible to your clearance level] [Please report this display error to Internal Affairs] [Thank you for your compliance]
